FOR A HEALTHIER AND MORE PRODUCTIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE INTERNET

DIGITAL COOLDOWN

DIGITAL COOLDOWN is a practical two-week programme to help you achieve a digital/life balance. More than ever, we're worried about the negative effects of social media and smartphones are having on our well-being and productivity.

That's why we could all benefit from a cooling down from our digital devices and asking: "What are my goals?" "What do I value about the internet?" "If I had 24 hours back in my life, what would I do with it?"

This is not about giving up the internet. Or unplugging. Or detoxing. This is about coming up with meaningful and fun alternatives to your daily digital habits - and doing them. This is about helping you make long term changes to your online behaviour surrounded by your ordinary environment and routines.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY

FOR A HEALTHIER AND MORE PRODUCTIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE INTERNET

HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS FOR ME?

You’ll know.

It’s that sick feeling when you look up from a screen and wonder where all your time went. It’s when you spend 2-3 hours a day reading tweets, blogs and articles online but can’t remember what you read. It’s when you find yourself obsessively checking the same apps and websites in a loop, not knowing why, and feeling anxious when you try to stop. It’s when you measure your self-worth with likes, followers, retweets, comments and other corporate (but not human) metrics. It’s when it’s just before midnight and you check your work email, just one more time, just in case. It’s when you’re watching the fifth episode in a row of a television show but you’re not really paying attention and you’re on your phone. It’s when you’re sleepless and anxious, and you surf the internet at 2AM consuming content that only leaves you feeling worse. It’s when your phone and laptop become best friends with your anxiety so you struggle to look after yourself and step away. It’s when you’re downright frustrated and angry at what the internet has become -- and believe that something better is possible

You’ll know what brings you here. Everyone’s relationship with the internet is completely different. And it's an incredibly emotional relationship. All you need to know is that you want something to change.

Digital cooldown gives you a way out - or at least a structured starting point for helping you think about how what adds value to your life and what you want to reduce.

You’ll know what brings you here. Everyone’s relationship with the internet is completely different. And it's an incredibly emotional one. All you need to know is that you can make changes and a digital/life balance is possible.

Digital cooldown gives you a way out - or at least a structured starting point for helping you think about how what adds value to your life and what you want to reduce.

Curious and exploratory: the focus of the cool down is learning about your online behaviour and habits. What triggers you to check your phone? How do you feel when you

Personal and playful: It's fun! If you had 24 hours of your life back, what would you do? Who would you meet up with? What would you read? You create your own life and alternatives.

Practical and experimental: Take action! An important part of programme is focusing on what you can do instead of what you can't.

DIGITAL COOLDOWN is all about helping people have a healthier and more balanced relationship with the internet. More than ever, we're worried about the negative effects of social media and smartphones are having on our well-being and productivity.

We spend more time online than we do sleeping, so it's remarkable how little time we spend thinking about how we can improve our relationship with what we do online. Small changes to our digital lives can have a massive impact on our well-being.

It's easy to feel out of control, frightened and powerless. But that's why we would all benefit from a cooling down from our digital devices. This is not about giving up the internet, unplugging or detoxing - it's about taking a breather and asking ourselves, "What are my goals?" and "what do I value?"

This two week programme is the result of lots of self-experimentation, conversations with friends and testing it out on others. It starts with the question, "What are your goals?" and takes things from there. It takes an experimental, practical and positive.
